2/14: Ash Wednesday will kick off Lent. Our service will be @ 7pm. It will include singing, prayers, and the imposition of ashes. Ash is a sign of our weakness and humility, and therefore our need for the living God.
What is Lent?
The word “Lent” comes from the Old English word “lengten,” which simply means “spring” — when the days lengthen and new life springs forth. It is 40 days during which we anticipate the victory of the light and life of Christ over the darkness of sin and death on Resurrection (Easter) Sunday on March 31st. It is, to borrow a phrase from C.S. Lewis, a season of a kind of “happiness and wonder that makes you serious.” (Gospel in Life).
During Lent, we engage in daily actions to love God and our neighbor. This will include studying the Gospel of John. The calendar can be found at www.calvayreformedcle.com; click on
