March 5th: Ash Wednesday will kick off Lent. Our service will be @ 7pm. It will include singing, prayers, and the imposition of ashes. Ash is a sign of our weakness and humility, and therefore our need for the living God.
What is Lent?
The word “Lent” comes from the Old English word “lengten,” which simply means “spring” — when the days lengthen and new life springs forth. It is 40 days during which we anticipate the victory of the light and life of Christ over the darkness of sin and death on Resurrection (Easter) Sunday, April 20. It is, to borrow a phrase from C.S. Lewis, a season of a kind of “happiness and wonder that makes you serious.” (Gospel in Life).
